How it works

  1. Meeting

A recruiter meets you in person, checks that you are an adult and explains everything.

  2. Your code

You receive a personal QR code and choose your own secret PIN. Nobody else knows it.

  3. You talk

With the app, you tell a story, describe a picture, chat. Even without a network: the upload happens later.

  4. You get paid

After review, the approved session is paid to your mobile money account. If it is refused, you can appeal within 14 days.

Who can take part?

  • Adults aged 18 and over who speak Baoulé every day.
  • Women and men of all ages and from every region: what matters is a wide range of voices.
  • People who have never recorded their voice for another project of this kind.
  • An Android phone is enough; we can lend one during the session.

On the recording day

  • Choose a familiar place: home, the yard, the market. Everyday background noise is useful.
  • Each clip lasts from 30 seconds to 3 minutes; take breaks whenever you like.
  • You can listen again and start over before sending.
  • A full session takes about half an hour.

What we will ask you

A personal story

A childhood memory, a journey.

Describe a picture

What the people are doing, what will happen next.

At the market

Bargaining over a price or a quantity.

Giving directions

To the market, the clinic, the family.

A conversation

With an adult relative who also agrees.

Speak naturally. French words that slip into the conversation are welcome. Avoid phone numbers, exact addresses and health information: if they come up, we remove them.

Where the pilot takes place

We are starting in the centre of the country, in the heart of the Baoulé-speaking area, before opening other regions.

Pilot areas

  • Yamoussoukro area: Yamoussoukro, Toumodi and Tiébissou.
  • Béoumi and Sakassou, west of Bouaké.
  • For reference: Bouaké and Abidjan (the company's registered office).

The map does not show the boundaries of the area where Baoulé is spoken: we have not found a source reliable enough to draw them. Live somewhere else? Sign up anyway: other regions will follow.

Your data, your rights

Before recording, you read or listen to the consent in French or in Baoulé, and you accept it yourself.

You can ask for a copy of the full consent at voix@abyshire.ci. The details of how we process data are in our legal notice.

I want to take part

Leave your details: a recruiter from your area will call you back. There is never anything to pay.

The pilot is recruiting in the Yamoussoukro area (including Toumodi and Tiébissou) and around Béoumi and Sakassou. Live somewhere else? Sign up anyway: other regions will follow.

We recruit in small groups. If a group is full, we keep you on the waiting list.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to read or write Baoulé?

No. The instructions are in French and in audio. You just talk.

What phone do I need?

An Android phone, even an old one (Android 6 or newer). The app works without a network and uploads later, over Wi-Fi or mobile data as you choose.

When am I paid?

After the session has been reviewed, in the grouped payment on the next working day. You receive your operator's notification; the details of each payment stay visible in your contributor area.

What if my session is refused?

You see the reason in your contributor area and can appeal once within 14 days; another person reviews the decision.

Can I use a relative's account?

Yes, if you name it yourself in front of the recruiter. Any change of account is checked in person.
